The Puffin watching adventure is ideal for bird watching enthusiasts and sets sail from Reykjavik’s convenient old harbour. You will board an charming wooden boat called Skúlaskeið or “Old Skuli“ with each tour limited to 35 passengers, making for a more intimate bird watching experience.
The cruise visits Lundey and Akurey, two small islands located in the Reykjavík bay area. The islands are covered with small hills and slopes and both are well known for their colourful birdlife. The island‘s shores are rocky but Old Skuli is especially designed to take you as close to the islands as possible due to its shallow draught.
Upon arrival to the islands the engine is turned off so passengers can observe the variety of Icelandic birds and the beautiful surroundings. The licensed guide tells all about the Puffins and other birds of interest that are often seen on the Puffin watching tours. Other birds spotted include northern Fulmars, Gulls, Arctic Terns, and Black Guillemots. Binoculars are provided on board. The Puffin watching tours are very cozy and comfortable, and they only take one hour.
