Iceland is one of the best places in the world for whale watching. On this whale watching cruise at sea you will encounter magnificent whales and a variety of birdlife. Conveniently located in Reykjavík’s old harbour, a three hour journey with Elding will bring you so close to the whales in their natural habitat that you can often smell them!
The most typical creatures sighted include minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises and the popular humpback whales, known for their fan-like tails. On the journey you will be accompanied by sea birds such as gannets, puffins, guillemots, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, arctic terns, and many more, so if you are interested in bird watching this trip is for you. In addition, the cruise takes you past several islands inhabited by colonies of puffin – a great photo opportunity and perfect way to remember your Iceland holiday.
To ensure that the animals are not disturbed by human presence, the cruise sails at a constant speed towards the whales’ habitat. As a result, a variety of species, from humpback whales to tiny porpoises, often surface within a few feet of the boat.
