TV Gets a Bit Cooler – Iceland Week Starts Today

Icelandair featured on programmes on BBC4 and Channel 4

Iceland and Icelandair will be featured this week (9th – 15th May) with a showcase of films, comedies and documentaries from the country appearing on BBC4.
 
The TV channel has themed the week as ‘Iceland Week’ and will be featuring documentaries on the Icelandic Viking Sagas and a showing of photographer Ragnar Alexsson’s documentary Capturing the Faces of the North. There will also be a chance to catch episodes of the Icelandic comedy series The Night Shift and the 2006 film Jar City.
 
Complementing the focus on Icelandic culture, Julia Bradbury will be showcasing the best of Icelandic scenery with her hour-long special Icelandic Walks, which will be screened on 11th May at 9pm. The show sees Julia walking 60 kilometres of Iceland’s most famous hiking route, culminating in a trip to the huge volcanic crater at the centre of the now-infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier.
 
Alongside BBC4’s focus on Iceland, Channel 4 will also be visiting Iceland on Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer’s Vacation, Vacation, Vacation which is due to be screened on 11th May. The show will focus on luxury adventure in Iceland and will feature helicopter trips, snowmobile rides, northern lights viewings and a stay in South Iceland’s luxurious Hotel Ranga.

Icelandair assisted in transporting several of the programmes‘ crews on their twice daily flights from London Heathrow to Iceland.  Icelandair is one of Iceland’s longest established companies, connecting the world and Iceland for over 70 years.  Icelandair flies from the UK (London Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow) to Iceland with connecting service to Boston, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Orlando, Seattle, Washington, DC, Halifax and Toronto.
