The size of your hand luggage should not exceed 55x40x20 cm. Please note that any bag or item must fit easily into the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you.

Disabled passengers are allowed a wheelchair in addition to their free baggage allowance, but the wheelchair must be checked in.

Children with a reserved seat are allowed the same amount of carry-on baggage as an adult. Infants under two years of age without a reserved seat do not have their own carry-on baggage allowance.

What about liquids in my carry-on baggage?

Liquids may be carried inside your cabin luggage provided that they meet the following conditions:

  • No container may hold more than 100 millilitres (3 ounces) of liquid.
  • All of the liquid containers must fit easily in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag, in which the liquids total no more than 1 litre (1 quart).
  • Each person may have only one such plastic bag.
  • "Container" means any bottle, flask, tube, canister or other object that can hold a liquid.
  • Since most drink cans and bottles can hold more than 100 ml (1dl), they are therefore not permitted beyond security screening.

You may carry on board other necessities for your personal use during the flight, provided that airport security screeners do not consider them a security risk. Generally, acceptable necessities will include:

  • Prescribed medicines in quantities sufficient for the duration of the flight
  • Baby food
  • Food needed for special diets

What may I not take along in my carry-on baggage?

Information on security restrictions for baggage when travelling from Iceland, within or from Europe may be found on the European Commission (EC) website. Information on security restrictions for baggage when travelling from the U.S. may be found on the U.S. Transportation Security website (TSA) website.

We at Icelandair must show consideration for the space and security of all of our passengers, so please note that our personnel are not required to accommodate any large carry-on baggage such as framed pictures.

Oversized baggage will be stowed in the baggage compartment of the airplane with a bag tag on according to its destination.

As for the baggage you take into the cabin of an Icelandair aircraft, you are responsible for it and should place it under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment.

What security regulations do the EU/EAA and USA/Canada have for duty-free items?

Going east over the Atlantic . All Icelandair passengers who departed from the USA or Canada must go through EU/EEA (European Union / European Economic Area) security screening upon arrival in Iceland at Keflavik International Airport. If any liquid duty-free items have been purchased prior to boarding and departing from the USA or Canada and are still being carried in containers that can hold 100ml or more, these items will be subject to confiscation. An exception is made for duty-free items purchased in EU/EEA duty-free shops and kept in properly sealed bags.

Going west over the Atlantic . All Icelandair passengers who are entering the USA on an international flight and have EU/EEA dutyfree items in their carry-on baggage must keep these in properly-sealed bags and must pack these bags in their suitcases upon arrival, before they check in the suitcases for connections to US domestic flights.
