You hardly need to leave Reykjavík for a day of deep sea fishing, salmon angling, whale watching, high quality bird watching and an array of other high adventure activities. There is also the amazing food, as local chefs blend the outstanding seafood and lamb with international cooking styles, giving Icelandic restaurants a unique style. You should consider staying in Reykjavík for a few days and then visit to the countryside which is often described as "hauntingly beautiful".

• Flights to Iceland with Icelandair arrive at Keflavík International Airport located 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Reykjavík city centre. The airport is small and convenient with Flybus and taxis waiting to transfer you to the city centre.
• Hungry? Reykjavík has an unbelievable number of top class restaurants. We recommend top of the class steakhouse, Argentína Steikhús on Barónstígur, old centre. Hótel Holt on Bergstaðastræti and Grillið Hótel Sögu, both in old centre. Check also Hjá Sigga Hall on Óðinstorg. Siggi Hall is a well known chef in and around Iceland. The wonderful seafood restaurant, Þrir Frakkar, and its specialty Hashed fish with black bread. The list goes on as there are a number of other recommendable restaurants.
• Shopping? Try the two malls, Kringlan, 5 minutes drive from the city center, and Smáralind, 10 minutes drive from Reykjavík center. The old city centre has a few solid shopping streets, Laugavegur, Hafnarstræti, and Bankastræti. Many great restaurants are located in the old centre.
