Discover the wonders of North Iceland and search for the Northern Lights on the edge of the Arctic Circle. The tiny city of Akureyri was named The Best European Destination 2015 by the Lonely Planet, thanks to its easy-going feel combined with an urban buzz, while also providing a great base for exploring North Iceland's green pastures, fishing villages and waterfalls, not to mention glimpsing awe-inspiring glaciers, volcanoes and lava fields. There are few areas better than the North Iceland for hunting the Northern Lights. This 4 night package gives you the opportunity to combine a visit to Reykjavik and the charming town of Akureyri, located on a stunning fjord only a 45 minute flight from Reykjavik.
You will spend the first evening of your trip in Reykjavik at the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura (or similar). Nights 2 and 3 are spent at the charming three star Icelandair Hotel Akureyri (or similar). Akureyri provides an excellent base for winter recreational activities such as downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, horse trekking, Super Jeep excursions and ice skating. The area is a popular place to search for the Northern Lights due to its proximity to the Arctic Circle and its frequent cold and clear weather. Sightings are not guaranteed and if sightings are not possible, the tour may take you to historic sites in North Iceland, where you will hear about Icelandic gost stories.
The final evening is spent in Reykjavik, a town known for its lively nightlife and innovative dining options. Overall this package is perfect for those looking for an intimate Northern Lights experience in a part of Iceland with few tourists.
