1944

On March 10, 1944, a new carrier began operations under the name Loftleidir. The two  Icelandic airlines, Flugfélag Íslands and Loftleidir, continued to add to their fleets in the following years. In the summer of 1944, Flugfélag Íslands operated two brand new De Havilland Rapide land-based planes in addition to the Beechcraft, while Loftleidir equipped itself with a new Stinson and a Grumman Goose flying boat. The two companies were flying high, carrying passengers and freight to many destinations all around the country.
