Chicago, Illinois is the MidWest’s largest city and should be on every bucket list. In fact, Chicago is the US’s third largest city overall, which means there’s a whole range of activities and entertainment to choose from at any given time.

The Windy City by Lake Michigan

Chicago is colloquially known as the Windy City, but that shouldn’t dampen your spirits. Nestled by the waterfront, beach-goers should have plenty of opportunities for some lakeside lowdown by the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. When you’re not busy tanning, you should spend some time downtown near The Magnificent Mile of Michigan Avenue and the smorgasbord of shops, boutiques, cafés and restaurants that fill the city with life – and style. It’s a good thing you can check two bags on your way to North America. Plenty of space for your shopping.

The Genuine Chicago Pizza

Chicago is also known for great pizza. Enjoy the signature deep-pan pizzas and make sure you go on an empty stomach!

Museums, Baseball or Basketball?

You don’t even have to choose. Go to a ballgame to see The Cubs or White Sox in action, or spend some time with the legendary Chicago Bulls and the legacy of the great Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen before heading out to the lakeside Museum Campus where you can easily spend a day going between The Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, The Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium. If you’re impressionistically inclined, we recommend the Chicago Art Museum, which has curated the largest collection of impressionistic works in the US. If you’re travelling with your family and want to spend a day outdoors, head to Lincoln Park Zoo, which is free of charge.

The Bean, Willis Tower and The Goodman Theater

Tall buildings are quite remarkable. You’ll find one of the tallest buildings in the US in Chicago, Willis Tower, and can even venture out onto the viewing platform if you feel like a dare. If the weather’s nice, you can go on a boat ride along Chicago’s canals and along the shore of Lake Michigan.  And don’t forget to pay homage to “The Bean” (Cloud Gate) in Millenium Park – a remarkably seamless and reflective sculpture that has quickly become one of Chicago’s most characteristic viewpoints.

After a good day of sightseeing, wrap up your day at The Goodman Theater and catch a show, or just take in the building and the theatre’s history.
